Chair Rails
Chair rails are horizontal decorative trim installed around the perimeter of a room to protect walls from damage by chair backs. Usually placed 32 to 36 inches from the floor. They serve both a functional, protective purpose and an aesthetic one, often dividing walls for two-tone paint or, in some cases, topping off wainscoting.
